  • What is Solar Photovoltaic (PV)?

PV means 'photovoltaic', or energy from light; and 'solar' means sun. So a solar PV system uses panels to absorb sunlight and convert it into electricity. It's a simple and easy way to start generating your own power at home to run your appliances.

  • How does it work?

Solar PV systems are a series of panels, consisting of PV cells which are laminated between glass and a back-sheet, which are then put in a rigid frame. These panels are installed on your home, facing between south east and south west, to get as much direct sunlight as possible.

  • The savings

    • Our standard Solar PV system could help you save up to a tonne of CO2 a year – that's 17% of your energy related CO2
    • Under the new Government Feed-in Tariffs (FITs) Scheme, you could receive up to £758* a year for all the electricity you generate and an additional £27* a year for the electricity you don't use that's exported back to the electricity grid
    • Save up to £110*** a year on your current electricity bills by running your appliances on the electricity you generate
    • Combined FITs income and electricity savings of £895 a year*/***
  • EcoRenew Solar PV and Feed-in Tariffs

There has never been a better time to invest in our EcoRenew solar PV systems. From 1st April 2010 customers who have solar PV panels installed can benefit from new Government Feed-in Tariffs (FITs) scheme. The scheme guarantees we will pay you a minimum payment for all the electricity generated by the PV system, as well as a separate payment for the electricity exported back to the electricity grid.

For further details on how you could benefit from FITs click here or call our Green Energy Team on

  • Is Solar PV right for you?

If you're a homeowner and want to reduce your CO2 emissions, receive substantial payments for the electricity you generate as well as save money on your electricity bills, then Solar PV could be what you need. And it won't cost the earth to save tomorrow.

Some important information

*Based on figures derived from the Energy Saving Trust using a standard 2.16 kWp installation generating 1,836 kWh per year. Amount of up to £758 per year paid through the Generation Tariff at 41.3p per unit (kWh) for 1,836 kWh generated. Amount of up to £27 per year paid through the Export Tariff at 3p per unit (kWh) based on an average of 50% (918kWh) of the electricity generated that's exported back to the electricity grid.

**Saving based on average standard UK electricity tariffs and assumes that 50% of electricity generated will be consumed on site.
